One of the finest releases ever by the Mitsubishi Motors is the Mitsubishi Lancer. The car has evolved over the years both in names as well as shapes. It had been called by the names of the Colt Lancer, Chrysler Valiant Lancer, Eagle Summit, Dodge/Plymouth Colt, Hindustan Lancer, Mitsubishi Carisma, Mitsubishi Mirage, and the Soueast Lioncel. Since its introduction in the early 70s the car has seen over six million of its kinds sold all around the world. In India Hindustan Motors brought this beauty in the year 1998. That time the car was given the image of a sports car which could have been raced around. The latest release of the Lancer is much more elegant and has gone through a lot of tweaks since its release.
The exteriors are much simpler and give the feel of a very big car indeed. The newest version has received a sportier front end giving the car a much more aggressive look. One of the things which the observers would notice with this car is the wedge like profile and the crisp taut lines. The styling of the car may seem to be a copy from some of the other premium cars available but certainly the finishing by the company to its edges and curves gives a premium feel altogether. The exotic lights which the headlamps of the car look like are an added elegance to this wonderful offering. At the back the tail lamps seem to have borrowed over the same exotic finishing like the one in the front. However the latest car which is available has a much shorter deck than before.
Lancer Car is complimented well by the long wheelbase and a much wider track. However this new release is a bit shorter than the predecessors. Speaking of the interiors car lovers would fall in love with the car and might not find any drawback to the entire feel within. Once you step in you would see the sophisticated finishing and styling inside which is made up of hi-tech fittings such as the power steering, door mounted controls, electrically manoeuvrable mirrors, and the excellent quality upholstery and fittings. The car has enough space to seat in 5 people easily. Besides the big room that the car has within, the instruments and dash has got a much appealing finish to it. The seats have a bucket finish which is very comfortable even for a long journey on the difficult terrains as well. The company seems to have utilised the inside space pretty well by providing plenty of storage areas. Even though this car is a great offering the company has always been facing stiff competition all over the country due to its low promotions.
The engine is powerful 1.5litr petrol that produces 86 bhp and a torque of 132.3 Nm. The company has also released the diesel variant which is powered by a 2.0litr engine which produces 67 bhp and a torque of 122.5 Nm. As the car has not gained popularity many would not be aware that it has one of the best ride and handling ability which could be a driver’s delight. The well balanced suspension system that the car comes with ensures that the passengers move smoothly without feeling the potholes that passes beneath.
Speaking of the safety which the car has been enthralled within are the collapsible steering column, centrally mounted fuel tanks, 3 stage crumple zones, ELS seatbelts, and much more. Presently the car is facing stiff competition as the segment in which it is available has plenty of options today. The Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Verna, Tata Indigo and Maruti DZire are some of them. Lancer is available in 5 colour options namely the Silver, Black Onyx, Scotia White, Liquid green, and simply red. The options are available for both the petrol and the diesel variants.
There is no doubt that the car has proven to be a great powerful offering with superior technology under the hood. The elegant exteriors and the plush interiors surely make it a car to own. However with low popularity it is to be seen how the company promotes the car in order to increase its volumes.
