A step by the Indian Auto giant to enter into a new segment by the auto giant is what we can call the New Maruti Ertiga. The car has been launched as the LUV which makes the company as a player in all segments now. The car is a 7 seater car and knowing by the low maintenance nature of the Maruti cars it has hit with a bang in the Indian MPV market. As per the company, this car is launched in the LUV segment which it believes is a new segment created in the MPV market. The car saw its launch in the Auto Expo in the year 2010 as the R3 concept which later made its debut as the Maruti Ertiga in the 2012 Auto Expo. The company says the car has been designed especially for the Indian markets and trimmed to be driven around the globe.
Maruti Ertiga is available in both the petrol and the diesel variants and come in three trim levels. The car has been built on the platform of Maruti Swift and comes powered by a 1.4litre 1372cc K-series engine; it produces a power of 95PS and a torque of 130Nm. The diesel variant comes with a 1.3litre 1196cc DDiS Super Turbo engine which is pretty same as the engine in the Maruti Sx4 sedan. Ertiga comes with a certified mileage of 20.77kmpl for the diesel variant which is pretty high considering the built and the segment it gets launched in. It has a manual transmission and comes with a front wheel drive along with great quality interiors making it an appealing offering.
The car is quite spacious which comes with a length of 4265mm and the wheelbase of 2740mm. The top models of the car have the twin airbags fitted inside whereas the base models come with good enough fittings to it. The acceleration and the pickup seem to be promising enough to reach 100kmph in 15 seconds for the petrol whereas the diesel variant does the same in 15.5 seconds. The car comes with a top speed of 155 kmph with the 5 speed gearbox.
The car is available in 6 variants which includes 3 each for the petrol and diesel engines. The variants are:
• LXi,
• VXi,
• ZXi,
• LDi,
• VDi
• ZDi
The standard fittings for the middle and the top end variants are the twin AC, power windows, 3 spoke tilt power steering, central locking, keyless entry, audio system with USB compatibility and 4+2 speakers. The Ertiga gets the roof mounted AC vents for its second row which also covers the last row passengers. It is for sure the engineers at Maruti have designed the car keeping in the desires of the Indian customers in terms of usage and space they require.
The car comes with 8 colour options which are as follows:
• Fire Brick Red
• Ecru Beige
• Serene Blue
• Silky silver
• Dusky Brown
• Granite Grey
• Superior white
Looking at the exteriors you might feel that the design has been worked upon the concept of the Ritz hatchback which sports the front end exactly similar to the latter. It gets the same headlights as one would see in the Maruti Swift. Interiors have been kept calm and cosy where it boasts a good enough space for a big Indian family. It seems that the car has been given a better quality of materials to shape the interiors and the fact of handy spaces has been provided too. It gets the beige interior theme with several styling features. The middle row seats could be spilt in design for a 60:40 split.
The 15 inch alloy wheels with the tyre size of 185/65 make it a safer and a much smoother drive inside the vehicle. For the base as well as the mid variants the wheels are made of steel whereas the upper segment gets the full wheel covers. The LUV is a packed with superior safety features which includes the airbags, ABS with the EBD and brake assist which gives a good balance for the front and the rear axle. It also has the engine immobilizer and the high tensile roof adding a better safety cover to the vehicle.
Overall the great price, superior mileage and the space within makes this car a great buy. However one might have to compromise on high class luxury features, less thigh support and quite simple looks that the car comes with.
