BMW X5 comes with some new refreshing features. The most notable feature is the introduction of the standard navigation system. After small changes compared to last year the X5 now gets more attractive features which would appeal to almost all the auto enthusiasts. This luxury SUV which redefined the SUV segment about a decade ago is still in the top list. The generous features, powerful engines, better on-road stability and redefined interiors make it the most notable car.
The car is a luxury crossover and comes with every modern feature which one would expect from a car of this stature. The improved iDrive interface has made it much easier to fit in all the new features. The car comes with three different engine choices which range from turbocharged 6-cylinder, to twin turbo V8 and the 555-horsepower X5 M. All these features cost you a hefty amount and once you start adding features the price starts climbing up. The third row seats which are only suitable for your children, heavy steering efforts at low speeds along with a stiff ride quality tarnish the shine of X5 to some extent.
All the variants of BMW X5 sport the all-wheel drive but the buyers have the option to choose among three engines. The options are:
• xDrive35i which is powered by 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 which can produce 300 horsepower and a torque of 300 pound feet. The 35i has the capacity to go from 0-100 kmph just 7.6 seconds.
• xDrive50i and the xDrive35i come with 8-speed automatic transmission. X5 xDrive50i has a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 and produces 400 horsepower and a 450 lb-ft torque. It can reach 0- 100 in 5.5 seconds.
The mileage of the car is expected to be around 5.8 kmpl in the city and 10.4 kmpl on the highways. The top speed of V5 is 222 kmph which is amongst the fastest in the segments it’s available.
Even though there are some drawbacks the BMW X5 remains to be the top pick among the buyers. It is the all-round excellence of the X5 which matters the most and takes it above the other competitors. The optional 3rd row increases the seating capacity from 5 seats to 7 seats. But the extra seats are smaller and not suitable for adults. There are five trim levels available which include:
• xDrive35i Sport Activity
• xDrive35i Premium
• xDrive35i
• xDrive50i
• xDrive35d
The xDrive indicate the performance of the engine whereas the X5 M I a different breed among the ones available. The standard equipment include 18-inch wheels, roof rails, fog lights, automatic xenon headlights, automatic wipers, power tailgate, cruise control, parking sensors, automatic climate control, Ten way power seats (Front), Assist telematics, Bluetooth, telescopic steering wheel, 12-speaker music system, CD player, auxiliary audio jack, iPod interface, HD radio, etc. The xDrive35d which is powered by a diesel engine adds in some features that include the panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, auto dimming mirrors, etc.
The premium version of the xDrive35i enhances the extra features with the 19-inch wheels, power adjustable steering wheels, privacy glass, leather upholstery. Whereas the xDrive35i Sport Activity comes with an upgraded suspension, sport seats, 20-inch wheels, sporty steering wheel, increased top speed, and dark exterior trim. These features are optional on the xDive50i which gets the V8 engine, 16 speaker stereo, and an advanced navigation system.
For the base version i.e. the xDrive35i it has few options and is only eligible for a convenience package which includes panoramic sun roof, wood interior trim, ambience lighting, satellite radio and navigation system.
The higher trims come in packages as well as standalone options. This includes sideview camera, multiview parking camera, adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise control, active steering, automatic high beams, key less entry, 4 zone climate control, ventilated front seats, head up display, satellite radio and 16-speaker premium music system. The inclusions in M Sport package for xDrive35i Sport Activity and the xDrive50i variants are the 20-inch wheels, parking sensors, adaptive suspension, and M steering wheel.
The BMW X5 comes with standard safety equipment and includes antilock brakes, brake drying, stability control, rollover sensor, front head restraints, assist emergency telematics, side and front curtain airbags. It has a very elegant interior layout constructed with solid and excellent quality materials. Front seats have been nicely shaped and the cabin provides enough room for a comfortable drive. When both rows are folded the cargo capacity measures around 75 cubic feet. BMW5 is the best for handling in midsized luxury crossovers. The X5 features the curb weight and the elevated height riding qualities. The engine performance is great even with six cylinders. Only the price and smaller size of the optional 3rd row reduce the shine of the X5.
