This full size saloon from Volkswagen family is a premium segment car. After disclosing in the Geneva Motor show, in the year 2002, it has been marketed all over the world. Volkswagen Phaeton a business class car which has been only brought for affluent people has been build to give complacency & amenity. It is amongst the largest & the costliest car present in the Volkswagen fleet. Volkswagen has over flooded this car with features, many of them which are still in the testing or implementation phase in the other cars.
After a very long time we got a chance to ride in Volkswagen Phaeton Car, which is going to compete with the cars like Audi, BMW & Mercedes. Carefully designed exteriors have a lot of stuff in the kitty like tail lights with LED, radiator grille with a Chrome finish & Bi-Xenon headlights attracting the attention of the watchers. As per the common notion, business class people do not want any kind of inconvenience during the ride & they always strive for the luxury. So considering all these factors in mind & as per the requirements of the premium customers, it has been customized.
The interiors are so comfortable, that once anyone steps inside the car, he/she would not feel to come out & exactly the same happened with us. In the interiors we located climate control which can also be controlled while sitting at the back seat, front seats which can be adjusted in 18 different ways, vanity mirrors, slid able & tiltable glass roof which is electric in nature. To store eatables during journey it has got a small fridge inside. Boosting up the storage space is the space present below the armrests. Driver has got the authority to control most of the systems without taking the hands off the steering.
Phaeton Car has not only been meant to ferry the passengers but it also thinks, helps & take care of its commuters. As an example, the system present in the car brightens-up the surrounding of the car, providing an aid to the passengers during the dark. The 3.6 liter Petrol engine, having the piston displacement of 3597 cc gives an optimum performance. 370Nm of torque was generated when the wheels were rotating at the speed of 3500 RPM & the power was 280 PS at 6250 RPM. Air compressor suspension has 4 levels & they automatically adjust themselves as per the terrain, just on a command of the driver. Though from any end, the car doesn’t look like a SUV but the presence of a feature, i.e. 4-wheel drive, surprised us as this feature is rarely found in such a high end sedan. Available in 6-speed Automatic Trip Tonic Transmission, this car uses the platform of Audi A8.
The rear seat in the car can accommodate 3 people up to the maximum, but Volkswagen has give an option that the rear sitting capacity can be raised up to 4 on adjusting the center console. This looks quite strange & we are afraid that with such kind of arrangement, the interiors of the car may get spoiled. Overall the best place of the car is the rear seat. Behind its tinted glass, it offers adorable space & an excellent air conditioning system. Doors are closed gently without producing any typical “thud” sound. The updated version of the car is likely to have a cruise control in it.
