Tata has always dominated the commercial vehicle segment by its heavy duty vehicles & pickups. The first pickup of India was launched by Tata’s & it was named as Tata mobile 206. Though it was a powerful machine but features like power steering, head rests, etc were missing from it. Its upgraded version, Tata 207 was pretty much better than the previous one in terms of styling & because of the presence of Sierra engine.
Before launching Xenon in the Indian Market, it was launched in the 2nd largest pick up market of world, Thailand. Tata Xenon XT is a pick up, but it has been styled in such a manner that it never looks like a pick up. It carries a very cultured & contemporary look. This very stylish off roader is engineered for the battler adventure loving mob. The mini truck has been designed by a U.K based company, Concept. The car is an ideal for all those who are either frequent to their farmhouses or for those who enjoy setting camp in some outdoor locations. 5 people can be easily seated into it. It is a combination of projecting nose in the front that has been taken from the Sumo Grande & chassis that has been lent to it by Tata 207.
Rear door has a window line moving in upwards direction which makes it look stylish. All its tyres get equal amount of torque making it a 4 wheel drive car. To its front tyres is attached a torsion bar suspension. With the ground clearance of 200 mm, drive on the off roads becomes very easy. But the length of the car, which is more that 5 meters, has become the point of criticism as due to its length it becomes quite difficult to turn it around corners or move in clogged streets. With its pointed features, coating & paint, the car looks impressive. Looking from the side, the wheel arches, projecting outwards, & the long wheel base gives a very robust look.
Boarding Xenon XT, gave us the homely comfort. Interiors of the vehicle give a close look of those in Sumo Grande. Tata can do well while giving a finishing touch to the dash board & steering. Continuing the legacy of Tata SUV’s & pickups, this has also got an analog clock, but we suppose that a digital clock would have been a better option.
Travelers sitting in the front row have the advantage over the people at the back seats, as with copious legroom they can easily stretch their legs. If the trolley at the back is not sufficient, then more space can be carved out by folding the rear seats.
In all its variants, Tata has fitted 2.2 liter aluminum engine, which has 4 cylinders, each having 4 valves. Engine controlled by 32 bit microprocessor has Dual Overhead Camshaft in it. Aluminum usage has reduced both the weight & the cubic capacity which further generates the torque of 320 Nm. Its smooth engine helps it in accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 16.6 seconds.
Overall Tata Xenon XT has loads of space which is ideal for travelling but due to its length it cannot be used for daily driving purpose. Courtesy to its interiors, we do not wish to categorize the car in the pickup segment.
