As the Tata Nano was launched in the market, Tata showrooms were overcrowded for few days. The first thing that it brought to the customers was a big smile. A lot was said before the launch of the car & various controversies had surrounded it but everything died a natural death when it finally entered in to the market & no car is unlike it, no matter how luxurious or how powerful that car is. Nano is special in its own way.
Of all, what attracted us was the engineering & designing as how so much of material can be stuffed in such a little place. Everything mandatory, that falls in the category of safety, interior features & comfort, has been placed properly. Before the car arrived, speculations were there in the air that in 1 lakh price bracket, styling of the car will be compromised but when we saw that how people were praising its style, we got to know that those were just the speculations spread by the rival companies of Tata. Though the cars like Estilo & Spark also falls in the same category but these are the looks & styling of Nano, that distinguishes itself from them.
Front wheel is 135 mm in size with the radius of 12 inches while the rear wheel is 155 mm again with the same radius of 12 inches. The wheels of bulky cars are also heavy & are properly fixed into the body, as they have to bear the load of the machinery but in this light weight car, this matter has been kept quite simple & that is quite evident from fact that only three nuts have been used on each of the tyres. Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) has especially engineered tubeless tyres for Tata Nano Car, keeping in mind that tyres face very low resistance while rolling down the road but at the same time they also hold the road firmly. We accelerated the car up to 95 km/h but it never gave any signal that we may lose the control of the car. All four tyres are placed at the extreme ends of the car.
Just below its rear doors are present the air intakes. When I first looked at them from a distance, I felt that it might be some black coating that company might have given to it, to enhance its sporty looks, but after close monitoring I got that these are the air intakes as the engine of this car is also at the back. These rear features are generally seen in sports car like in Ferrari, though we are not comparing it with Ferrari & it cannot be compared even, but still the air intakes looks cool & helps in cooling down the engine.
Whole windscreen is covered by a single, well built wiper which also houses the water nozzle in it. In other cars the water jet coming out of the nozzle is focused at a single point, but that is not the case with it, as the water is thrown in correct proportions, all over the glass. The front part is very much sloppy but what we didn’t like were the gaps or the exterior finish of the car. In the end we just want to conclude with the statement that it is beautiful, immaculate & a necessary car, which could give us relief in traffic congestion & fuel prices, both of them growing proportionally.
