Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan Motor Company, has launched its first small car Nissan Micra in India. Now the question which has aroused in the minds of Indian Audience is, whether it is has been blessed by some special features to attract the customers or it is just another small car. Nissan Micra falls in the category of A2 hatchback. It has been priced below 5000, 000 & has latest ‘V’ platform. Motive behind the usage of V platform is that it reduces the weight by reducing the components. But Nissan has clearly stated that with the reduction in components, functionality of the car will never be compromised. Another reason for building it up on a ‘V’ platform is to make it financially sensible in the developing markets & at the very same time, to give it an elegant look.
Though Nissan has the plans to launch the car throughout the world but its main focus will be India & China, as apart from these two countries, car market has either saturated or is going to reach at the stage of saturation very soon. The roads in the originating markets like China & India are not very even, everywhere & to overcome this problem, Micra has been given ‘V’ platform. While in other countries (basically European & American market), emphasis has been paid on body control. Nissan Micra Car has been launched in 1.2 liter petrol engine & very soon its diesel variant with 1.5 liter capacity with automatic transmission will also be made available to the public. Its 3 cylinder Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) is 1198 cc engine which disperses power of 75 BHP at 6000 RPM & torque of 104 Nm at 4000 RPM.
On comparing it with A-star, we found that it is much more refined & the uncomfortable, rocky roads are not felt, once boarding the car. If we talk about size than Swift from Maruti Suzuki & Micra, fall in the same segment. Front fascia appears to be very cute & for this look which has often being termed as fast moving Mickey Mouse, the credit goes to its bug eyed head lights & dual grille. The presence of driver airbag in the basic model has taken it away from the basic models of Maruti, Hyundai & Tata. While the top models have dual airbags, Anti lock Braking System, Electronic Brake distribution, keyless entry, climate control, engine start/stop button, engine immobilizer, power windows, music player with 4 speakers, USB slot, rear wiper & information display.
Though the buttons present on the dash are less in number, but whatever is present it has been organized very well & contents are easily readable. Dashboard is spacious from the top, while at the bottom it has been curved, making good legroom for the front row passengers. The doors of car have key sensors, so whenever they sense the presence of the car keys, they automatically unlock themselves. Majority parts of the car are circular in nature except the fuel lid. Bad news, for the people who enjoy driving, is that the driver seat cannot be adjusted but it is the tiltable steering & the positioning of the seat, which gives an excellent view of the road & the surroundings. If the company needs to achieve its set targets then it has to work on the instrument cluster. Overall the product is good but if company wants to taste the success, then it should also give ABS in the lower end variants & the adjustable seat, which is a must for tall personalities.
