Honda Jazz is the first hatchback car from Honda & with this, Honda has also worn an insignia inscribed with Hatchback, on its decorated uniform, marking its entry into the segment. This is the same car which has been launched in other continents, with the name Honda Fit. The Indian Hatchback market is bit complex. It will be worth watching, whether Honda Jazz, which is quite famous in Japan as it has won the title like “Japan world car of the year”, would be able to fulfill the needs of Indian families who are looking for the perfect hatchback.
It is totally hidden in the future, whether Honda Jazz Car will be a trendsetter or it will be just like another hatchback like Ford Fabia, which was unable to set a firm base in the hatchback segment. Its features like platform, wheel base, stance & width are almost similar to those of Honda City. It, more or less, looks like an MPV or a casket, when seen from the sides. Paint quality & the finish, belongs to the superior class.
Working on the principle, “Man Maximum, Machine Minimum”, Honda has provided it with excellent packaging, giving energetic interiors, which are like a sedan & moderate amount of space. Wide opening doors are beneficial while boarding & de-boarding the car. In terms of passenger capacity, it can easily accommodate 4 people but if the number is raised to 5, they will surely going to face some problem. The seats of the car are quite low in height & because of that one of our team member, who is 6 feet tall, faced certain problem in adjusting himself. He also found that the thigh support for the rear seats is also of not of appreciable standard. But on the contrary, front seats are quite high on standards, with the lower portion supporting the back, in terms of comfortable seating.
We have noticed a very special trend in this car. The fuel tank is located under the front passenger seat, instead positioning it at the back which is quite common in other cars. Due to this arrangement, the space in the boot has touched the mark of 384 liters. Though the material used, while giving the final touches to the interiors, is of good quality but at some places, some different kind of sound is heard, on knocking.
Neither we have never seen & nor we have any interest, to see such an unacceptable positioning of the buttons on the dashboard. On looking at the dashboard, it appears that Honda has done an experiment by taking buttons of all available sizes & has just fixed them on it, without giving them any proper structure or proper flow.
Looking at the improper arrangement, it never appeared to us that we are sitting in a vehicle, which has manufactured premium segment vehicles like Honda City, Honda Accord or Honda CR-V. Also with no height adjustable seats, no arm rests & no lumbar seats Honda really needs to work on the interiors of this car.
