In India, except the SUV segment market, it has covered almost all the major segments such as hatchback with its Polo & Sedan with Passat, Vento, etc. It seems that Volkswagen is willing to attract the upper class crux, which would otherwise go for brands like Mercedes, Audi & BMW. Proving this fact is the launch of Phaeton, which is there to dominate the sedan segment market. But the company is not stopping just over here only as now it has entered in to the SUV segment. This is not just any other SUV segment car but it belongs to the segment from where the cars like BMW X5, Mercedes M class & Porsche Cayenne commence their journey.
If till now you have not came to know as which car we are talking about then we would like to bring your curiousness down & would like to remove the curtains from Volkswagen Touareg. Touareg is the first Sports Utility Vehicle of Volkswagen in India. As per the big bosses of the company, this is amongst the few important launches in the Volkswagen history. It has been made available in single version but that also is fully loaded & comes at a lower price than its all time contesters.
Sharp steering is when cemented with smooth engine, 6-speed automatic transmission & strong suspensions then the outcome is the superb balance between handling & ride. VW Touareg is a luxurious SUV with rich interiors. The list of its first class features is never ending. The outdoor qualities of the vehicle can also be not avoided. Only version launched in India is the V6 TDI which has 3.0 liter engine, which is environment friendly. While taking the test drive of the car we realized that we have covered a long distance on the metalled road & we wished to test it on the off road conditions. We changed the direction & took the plunge into the sand. These are the real testing grounds for the SUV & now we were expecting some amazing behavior from the car. Relying on our expectations it behaved abnormally. But this has to be taken in a positive sense. On applying the brakes we found that locking of brakes is there, in a controlled manner which thus reduces the braking distance by 15 - 20%. All this mechanism gets activated & comes into action when the car sensors some loose surface like that of sand & to sensor such a surface ABS plus system has been fitted into it, which is first of its kind.
It not only gets the power of 225 BHP at 4000 RPM & torque of 500 Nm at 1750 RPM from the engine but other characteristics like the wide & broad interiors, exterior design & the concrete body also act as a morale booster for the car. The dynamic shift program helps the driver in traversing through the various levels of gear, smoothly. Though in the designing segment it does not get full out of full marks, as it lacks the sharp features but its power packed performance is more than enough to compensate them.
