It has become a trend amongst the companies that they renew their old generation cars & re-launch them with all the glitter by calling them a succeeding generation car. Exactly the same has happened with Volkswagen Passat. Volkswagen marketing managers say that the Passat is an all new 7th generation car, but we had a doubt in our mind that instead being an all new car, it might be a revamped model of the last generation. D segment vehicles are only launched when a company sets up its firm base in a given country. Vehicles belonging to this segment are quite expensive, they have to be updated with the latest technology & they add to the brand image of the company & that is why, not every Automobile player enters in this segment.
The concept of the car has been derived from the previous model of VW Passat but if it’s looked head on, then it looks like Jetta. If the roof of the car is kept aside, then all the exterior features have new ideas behind them. The legroom at the back is big enough & has been termed as the best in the class. The car which has been launched in US is much bigger than the one launched in Asia & Europe as the people of these continents prefer riding mid size cars. Monocoque technique has been used in while building the car, as per which the structural load is supported by the outer skin of the car. The exit of the CO2 has been kept at a lower height & this is the biggest transition we have noticed till now. The comfort features in the car are quite high & it seems that the main motive of the Volkswagen engineers was to increase the comfort level & to reduce the emission of harmful gases in the environment.
Front end has a charm in it but still we never got the feel of elegance, which the older Passat carried in it. Front portion gets a wider look from the lying flat obtrusive chrome strips, which reside the company emblem on it. The bumper has been engulfed between the grille at the top & the air dam at the bottom. Above the rectangular box housing fog lamps, there is a sleek touch of chrome. As compared to the exteriors, the interiors have not been changed a lot. Large seats give the feel of a recliner wing chair but the proper cushioning has not been done on the sides. Premium car owners get the motorized adjustment of the seats & they can be heated or cooled. To judge Volkswagen Passat Car in a better manner, we drove the previous model of Passat & after examining the latest entrant we found that the quality of the interiors has been compromised in the models which are coming at a lower price. The road roar & the noise of the wind, around side mirrors, were also heard.
Despite the captivating performance of the diesel engine the need of a petrol engine is generally realized but that it countered by the presence of interiors having the precise designs & the cabin giving a soothing experiencing, making the overall journey quite comfortable.
