Tata Motors were previously engaged in building commercial vehicles. They earned a great name in that field. While they were in the commercial field, no one had thought that they are also looking the passenger vehicle segment as a prospective market. But on the 4th floor of the Bombay house, which is Tata’s headquarters in Mumbai, several rounds of top level meeting were organized to study the Indian passenger vehicle market. After this hectic schedule, Tata’s finally made up their mind to enter in the Car market & their first vehicle was none other than Tata Indica. But being the first car from the Tata family, it initially faced certain problems, which were reported by the early buyers, as like the performance of the car is not as per the claims made by the company. Engineers of the company took the problems seriously & made certain changes in the car. The new version was launched & the results are in front of us.
Tata is known for their quality products, no matter in what field the company is in. In automobile segment, they are the manufacturers of some of the most fuel efficient cars. They have maintained this legacy from the very first vehicle of company i.e. Tata Indica V2. Indica is not only a well known name in the local market because of its fuel efficiency but also it is one of the very few cars which have become the chartbusters for their company. I was making the rounds of this car to explore its exteriors & when I reached at the back, I found that the rear portion is basically circular or to be more precise semi circular in shape & is not that much appealing. But in the front, the long & somewhat pointed bonnet, as compared to the back, gives it good looks.
We suppose that fuel efficiency is not the only parameter to buy a vehicle, as people also look for some good looks in the car & this is the case with Tata Indica. Though Indica V2 Car has an excellent fuel sufficiency & designers have done their best to give it good looks by fitting adjustable head lights, fog lamps on both the sides, outer rear view mirrors which can only be adjusted by hands, spoiler at the back, inbuilt antenna & wheel covers but then also it lacks the beauty. Personally saying, the overall exterior looks, with curvy designs, of Indica V2 are not promising.
It may be the ugly appearance, which has led Tata to launch Indica Vista, having far more better looks as compared to Indica V2. Other cars to beat Indica in the competition are Ritz from Maruti Suzuki, Chevrolet Beat & Wagon R & all of these are miles ahead from Indica, in terms of internal beauty. Finishing of its seats, dashboard & door panels are almost lacking as after seeing them it appeared to us that designers might have just given a light touch to these segments.
But we would like to compliment the company as they have provided good space in the interiors as both legroom & headroom have high values. We would only suggest you to go for this car, if you have good finance & are ready to spend on its Fiat engine, which requires more frequent tours to a workshop. Also if the situation arises, you may have to shell out good amount of money on its spare parts which are also expensive.
